Our Boating Trips in Costa Rica |
Costa Rica is our favorite out-of-country destination for whitewater boating. Our first visit there was in 1990 on a trip with the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC). Unfortunatley, we only got to paddle 1 or 2 days before Chuck got too sick to continue and ended up in a hospital in San Jose for a couple days. Nancy stayed with him. We met up with the rest of the group for the farewell dinner on Friday evening. After we got home, Nancy decicded to study Spanish at the local community college (in Raleigh) so she could learn enough of the language so if I got sick the next time we were in Costa Rica, she could tell the medical folks to "Take could care of him, I'll be back after I am done paddling".
In early 1992, Nancy decided to sign up for a 4-week Spanish class in Costa Rica. Chuck decided to sign up too. It just so happened that NOC was offering a paddling trip that started the day after our Spanish classes ended, so we spent 5-weeks in Costa Rica that fall. It was a wonderful adventure for both of us.
We went back in 1998 and 2005 for two more trips with NOC. Then we started going with Endless River Adventures in 2008 amd continued to go with them in 2010 and 2012. One of the things that we like about ERA is the ability to set up a custom trip in which we get a group of our friends to go with us. In 2008 we had a group of 14 to celebrate Nancy's 65th birthday. In 2012 we had a group of seven.
