We rode north this morning to Los Chiles where we took a cruise on a pontoon boat on the Rio Frio which runs through the Caño Negro wildlife refuge, down river to the Nicarguan border. The captain and tour guide were excellent at pointing out the wildlife and positioning the boat so we all could see everything including turtles, cormorants, anhingas, nothern jacanas, caimans, howler monkeys, green iguanas, and water-walking lizards.
After the boat cruise, we had lunch in Los Chiles before the ride back to Arenal Springs Resort. On the way to/from Los Chiles we crossed a small river where iguanas congregate. Out bus stopped s we could take photos but we did not get off the bus. (We did stop and spend a few minutes photographing the iguanas and doing some shopping on our prior trips to Costa Rica.)
When we got back to the hotel we had the rest of the afternoon to ourselves. I took a nap and Nancy went on a short hike to look for birds. After dinner we had a relaxing soak in the volcanic hot springs.
